Nirvana Brewery is proud to announce that it has been awarded a bronze at the International Beer Challenge, making that a hattrick win for the brewery’s Bavarian Helles Lager in 2020. The medal joins a Great Taste award for the lager as well as a bronze medal from the World Beer Awards in the summer of 2020.
The award cements Nirvana Bavarian Helles Lager’s position as one of the world’s best alcohol-free lagers.
Nirvana’s flagship beer is a classic craft lager, without the alcohol. Brewed with Hallertau hops which bring their signature honey flavours and Munich malts giving gentle biscuit notes, this Bavarian Helles Lager is crisp, clean and only 0.3% ABV. It’s also unfiltered, retaining the brew’s top-quality flavour, without the alcohol.
Judges for the Great Taste awards noted the beer’s biscuit and floral aromas and well-balanced bitterness, with a refreshing finish. They concluded with calling the beer a successful no-alcohol brew.
Co-founder Becky Kean said: “I’m so proud of our flagship beer being recognised as one of the best available in the UK. Seeing the quality of craft alcohol-free lager in Germany is what started me on my journey to bringing great alcohol-free beers to the UK market in 2016, and since launching our Bavarian Helles Lager last year it’s gone from strength to strength – and now with 3 award wins! I’ll drink to that.”
Since bursting into a no/low beer scene devoid of craft options in 2016 and setting up Nirvana Brewery, which is the UK’s only physical brewery dedicated to alcohol-free beer, Becky has been at the forefront of the category as it’s grown exponentially. Coming from a large family of beer lovers, Becky wanted her Dad to continue to feel included in sharing brews even after he went teetotal. Armed with the belief that beer brings people together, Becky set out to create a range of craft alcohol-free beers to help anyone feel included, no matter what they’re drinking. The on-trade is benefitting from the explosion in mindful drinkers, as people continue to head to pubs, bars and restaurants to socialise, but want quality alcohol-free options for when they’re not drinking.
Ranging from stouts to pale ales and experimental brews like the limited-edition Tayberry Sour, Nirvana’s beers range from 0% – 0.5% ABV with something to satisfy different tastes.
