Tell us a bit about your company
Independent and family-owned, St Austell Brewery was established in Cornwall in 1851.
Fast forward 174 years, and our range of award-winning beers – including Tribute pale ale, Proper Job IPA and korev lager – are available in pubs and supermarkets nationwide. Hot on the heels of the rebrand of our much-loved Proper Job IPA in March 2024 and the launch of our first-ever no/low beer, Proper Job 0.5%, in October 2024, we took another huge step in reimagining our identity and values for generations to come.
In June 2025, we revealed our evolved brand story – a new brand identity, values, and an evolved sustainability plan – taking pride in our rich history whilst embracing a commitment to our ambitions for the future. We own over 160 pubs and inns across the West Country – including managed houses and tenancies.
We also operate two breweries, in St Austell and Warmley, near Bath (Hare Brewery), having acquired fellow West Country brewer Bath Ales in 2016, as well as holding a minority share in Harbour Brewing Company. With a network of six distribution centres across the West Country – from St Columb to Wimborne – we are the leading drinks wholesale company in the South West.

Alongside our flagship beers – Tribute, Proper Job, and Korev – we launched our first-ever low-alcohol beer, Proper Job IPA 0.5%, in October 2024. Since its launch, the crisp and refreshing beer – brewed with the same hops (Cascade, Willamette, and Chinook) as the original Proper Job – has been excelling. In the 10 months since its release, Proper Job 0.5% has scooped three awards: gold at the Taste of the West Awards, silver at the World Alcohol-Free Awards, and, most recently, bronze at the World Beer Awards.
We are passionate about cask ale, offering a limited-edition cask series – this year, with a special cinema theme – alongside our core cask brands: Tribute, Proper Job, Hicks, Cornish Best, and Anthem.
Our flagship IPA, Proper Job, underwent a rebrand in March 2024 – evolving the brand to continue driving loyalty among our existing drinkers while also attracting a broader audience.
The inspiration behind the rebrand was to fuse heritage and heartfelt craft with relevance for today’s market. It features a striking new typeface, and Proper Job’s iconic green is more prominent to maximise stand-out
