The National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) is a police hosted unit that supports the āprotect and prepareā strands of the governmentās counter terrorism strategy.
The Business Engagement Unit is a unit within NaCTSO and works across 16 sectors, providing free advice, guidance, and support to business around how best to mitigate the impact of terrorism and be better prepared.
The Business Engagement Engagement unit carryout the following activities:
ā Identify knowledge gaps in sectors
ā Build and maintain strong relationships with businesses
ā Share advice and guidance
By engaging with businesses, the unit aims to encourage organisations of all sizes to consider the threat and risk of terrorism and develop their ability to make the UK a safer place.

ProtectUK hosts an array of products; Start with our award-winning ACT Awareness e-Learning to learn about good practices to help counter terrorism and increase your security awareness. This course is primarily targeted at staff working within venues and public spaces but is also relevant to critical national infrastructure (CNI) sites and members of the public. ACT in a box is in an interactive exercising experience which enables businesses to rehearse and explore their response to fictional terrorist incidents at or near their premises.

Once you understand the risks that your business, staff and the public might face, you can consider guidance on security measures that you can apply to reduce the risk.
Awareness
Increasing awareness reduces the likelihood of a successful terrorist attack and improves your ability to respond appropriately.
Martynās Law
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 received Royal Assent on Thursday 3 April. Designed to ensure the public are better protected from terrorism, by requiring certain public premises and events to be prepared and ready to keep people safe in the event of an attack. The Government intends for there to be an implementation period of at least 24 months before the Act comes into force. This period will enable those responsible for premises and events to have sufficient time to understand their new obligations.
